For my students in Kinder, COVID-19 meant that a lot of the time they might have spent learning through cooperative play in their early years was instead spent in quarantine. Play-based learning is a crucial part of Kindergarten, so I have included some props to help my students engage in dramatic play, that is always based on and related to a weekly theme. For example, one item I have included is a set of real, encapsulated bus so that students can be entomologists and examine insects during dramatic play. Dramatic play is a great way for students to learn with and from each other - it encourages them to have conversations that use our vocabulary and the thematic elements we are focusing on. This was the most critical piece that was missing during COVID-19 - the cooperative element, where students engaged with and learned from each other.
