This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are unique in that they are all autistic. They are all in a center-based program for students with high special needs. Despite their disabilities, they are able to overcome great barriers to their social and academic growth. They are part of our local Special Olympics, and practice on a weekly basis.
My students are courageous and brave.
They are willing to try new things and work hard in their personal lives to grow to become better students. The school they attend is a title 1 school in a low income area of our city. Resources are low due to this and as students with autism, their sensory needs and differentiation of curriculum is high.
My Project
Due to my students' diagnosis of autism, they all have special ways of learning. Hands-on, concrete experiences help solidify what they have learned and help them to retain the information in order to build upon their knowledge is the goal of my project.
Manipulatives are hands down the best thing for my students.
With access to better resources, these kiddos can really soar in their education and feel accomplished. Confidence in what you can learn with the right materials is a key component to a successful education for these exceptional students.
