My students need four Toshiba - Excite Go tablets to access the websites such as Edmodo, and Blendspace to complete learning activities related to cross curricular units of study.
"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn."
~Benjamin Franklin
One of the biggest challenges in the classroom today is engaging each and every one of our students. Tablets would allow my students to research, record their learning and share their learning.
I teach in a school that is in a middle class suburb.
My students come in each day excited to learn. They are fairly technologically literate and enjoy using technology such as a Smart Board and laptops (mostly for playing both academic and non academic games). As state assessments move to an online format it is important for my students to be able to do more than gaming! With only 3 older laptops in the classroom, access is limited.
Students are communicate what they have learned n writing. Each year I have children who struggle with weak small motor skills and are frustrated because they know what they want to write
but are unable to get it down on paper. Tablets would help me meet their needs both academic and emotional.
My Project
My students need four Toshiba - Excite Go tablets to complete learning activities related to cross curricular units of study. My students would be able to use the tablets to access sites such as Blendspace and Edmodo. These sites would link them to online resources related to lessons and resources related to all areas of our curriculum. This could be done in centers or in small groups. The tablets would allow me to use programs to track student learning by getting real time feedback tied specifically to the Common Core Standards. This feedback would be used to differentiate instruction and meet individual student needs.
I am also really excited about having my students record their reading in an online reading log (BiblioNasium) and track their progress learning the basic math facts online. Hopefully, this will increase the amount of time homework is completed.
I could go on and on! There are so many ideas I have for how my students could use these tablets!
I believe that these tablets will increase student motivation and engagement as well as allowing repeated access to technology based resources.
My students would gain experience creating projects with various software and websites to share their learning that would translate into work experience later.
I believe that the tablets would allow me to meet the individual needs (academic and emotional) of all of my students.
