Engaging in the 21st Century!

My students need 5 Chromebooks to keep up with class assignments, explore simulations related to what we are learning and expand on what they learned in the classroom.

My Students

Our students are high achievers who love to engage in discussion about environmental science and the connections to the real world. We are located on the south side of Chicago and engaging with the environment is not always easy.

My students love to ask questions and often ask insightful ones that require some research outside of our curriculum.

They love to engage with technology, posting to our "Google Classroom" page, creating innovative digital products, and finding ways to research and explain their ideas.

They yearn to learn more and expand their worldview. Experiencing natural and built environments outside of our urban neighborhoods allows them to see new opportunities, problems, solutions, and careers!

My Project

My high achieving students need access to current technology to be successful in my class! Having 5 Chromebooks that live in my classroom allows for students to easily use a computer during lunch and before and after school. Often I have to send my students to the library, where they cannot easily turn and ask me questions as they work on lab reports, online simulations or use Google Classroom or our online mastery system.

Students will use these for checking grades, completing homework, conducting research, and other tasks necessary to their success!

In addition, I am leading a science research club, where students are conducting research and experimentation and working to compete in scientific competition. Students 7th-12th grade will need continuous access to technology, not merely when I am able to reserve a laptop cart.

Having access to computers that work will help me serve students at lunch or before/after school. A few of my students do not have access to technology at home. These students often are the ones who struggle in my class. Having computers in my room will allow for me to have targeted interventions with these students.
