Help me give my students an ecology classroom library and mascots to celebrate while we learn how human actions impact their ecosystems.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are inner-city students. The school has an eighty percent poverty rate. The students that will directly benefit from this project are enrolled in my ninth-grade biology course.

Many of my students never leave the city limits of our district.

I teach my course by introducing students to global issues. It is my goal to develop students into global citizens and show them how they can apply the skills and concepts they are learning to make the world a better place.

My Project

Please help my students develop their reading skills by expanding our classroom library. This year I have implemented a weekly reading session, where students get to read a book of their choice based in ecological science. My goal is to develop a classroom library at a wide range of reading levels and including many topics that we will explore together throughout the school year.

There are so many amazing stories that take place everyday in the world, please help my students read about them.

All the requested texts are nonfiction and are based on environmental issues, human actions being implemented to combat these issues and other ecological topics.

I am also requesting a set of classroom mascots. Each of our ecology units throughout the school year focuses on a different biome. During our investigations of human impacts on these ecosystems we focus on a specific species of animal found there. I have requested a stuffed animal of each of the species we study.
