Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 8th grade U.S. History in a small urban middle school located in a high-need community in the Bay Area. In the past 2 years that I have taught at this school, the teaching staff and the local community have witnessed significant academic and behavioral improvements in our students. Our school district recently made a decision to promote our school site as an underutilized, but exemplary "hidden gem" school within the district.
It has been my dream to start an engaging and exciting strategy-based Game Club at our school. This past year, I ran a very basic game club that featured commonly played games such as chess, checkers, and Connect Four. However, I would love to introduce my students to a selection of engaging and challenging games that they have not had the chance to ever play before.
Last year, some of my students who participated in the game club commented that my game selection was too limited and predictable. Therefore, it is my goal to build a library set of games that will actively engage my students with a variety of fresh challenges. These games would greatly benefit students by developing their social and logical skills as they work collaboratively to utilize a wide variety of problem solving strategies.
With your generous support, you will make it possible for my students to enjoy a wide variety of strategy-based games and to ensure that an active Game Club will be available for future generations of students. Please help to build our school's Game Club. "Get your game on!"
