My Students

Our tiny, rural, Title I school is located in Central New York. My students come from a very tight-knit community, in which most of the families have lived for generations. Despite our small size, we have a diverse population, and students come from all different backgrounds and experiences.

My students are inquisitive and creative!

Every single one of my students is a remote learner this year. It is so important to me to able to provide engaging experiences for my 13 first graders, and I strive to do that - even while distance learning.

My Project

My amazing first graders are working so hard at home as fully remote students.

These materials will help to provide engaging reading materials to my 13 first graders!

The TPT gift card will help to purchase the Engaging Readers Close Reading set - this provides lessons, plans, and activities for over 40 books! The Engaging Readers set also has options for SeeSaw, our digital platform, which means that students can easily interact with and complete activities at home. The books included are for several months of Close Reading experiences!

During a close read unit, we spend a full week on one text. This allows my students to really delve into, and explore a story. During this time we explore many areas of reading - the author's purpose, the central message, visualization, predicting, and inferring. The time spent engaging in these texts also allows for rich vocabulary work, deeper comprehension, and the opportunity to make meaningful text connections.
