Engaging English Language Learners in Reading and Novel Study
Help me give my students the ability to see themselves in the texts that they read in class. My school is 1/3 English Language Learners and I want to offer them opportunities to read texts they look like.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter will make a difference in the classroom because it will allow our students to connect with the characters in the text.
Our Goal: The I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter novel will enrich our teachers and students knowledge of the Hispanic community.
LRS High School is a very diverse school with a building of 2200 students. 30 percent of our students are HIspanic. The teachers will plan engaging lessons for the students to interact with the text.
Reading comprehension will become more accessible to the students if they connect with the text and have some background knowledge about what they are being asked to read in class.
