Engaging Current Events and Science Reading Materials For 1st Graders
Help me give my students the gift of understanding current events, age-appropriate science articles while reinforcing phonic skills at home as distance learning progresses into the winter months.
My class of 1st graders never ceases to amaze me. They are bright, hopeful, and they are resilient.
My students deserve the absolute best, but limited resources both at school and at home make distance learning difficult.
Close to 70 percent of our diverse student population at school qualify for free and reduced lunch. 60% of my First Grade class are English Learners. I am always looking to find ways to connect with my students and their families, through meaningful learning experiences. The building of a community of engaged learners becomes more important than ever as we continue our school year virtually instead of being together as a class.
My Project
A significant portion of First Grade is learning how to read.
I struggle to find or modify materials that are not only engaging, but fit the diverse needs of my English language learning students of various levels.
Help me give my students the gift of understanding current events, age-appropriate science articles while reinforcing phonic skills at home as distance learning progresses into winter.
Gift cards to Teachers Pay Teachers will allow me to choose developmentally appropriate, engaging phonics and reading materials for my class. A subscription to Scholastic News and Science Spin would provide my class with fun and interesting nonfiction reading content at home.
