Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are hardworking, curious, inquisitive learners. They strive to consistently do their best and go above and beyond classroom expectations. Most of my students speak a language other than English at home and their families come from countries all over the world. The students in my class have many aspirations and consistently work hard and persevere in the face of academic and social challenges throughout the school day. I am incredibly proud of the work they do and the humans they are.
Together with families, our school is committed to giving all students opportunities to follow their dreams.
With limited school funds, it can be challenging to provide our students with the high-quality materials and supplies they need and deserve to get the most out of school. That's why we need you!
My Project
Learning to read and comprehend is crucial to the success of all students. These different books series will help my newly independent 2nd grade readers make the important transition from leveled readers to beginning chapter books. These books are full of easy to read text, simple plot lines, plenty of context clues, and illustrations, which all help build reading comprehension.
With these new series, my students will be able to follow their favorite characters through adventures in book after book.
As a newly independent reader, there's a lot to digest in a book, like story structure, characters, setting, and plot. Reading books in a series gives the students a comfort level so that they can focus on the words and get to know a group of characters.
The Branches collection of books, which include The Dragon Master's series, The Notebooks of Doom, Owl Diaries, and many more will improve my students' ability to read and comprehend by exposing them to stories and text that are neither too easy, nor too hard, which develops confidence while facilitating comprehension.
