Our school is 56 years old and is located in the largest city in Oregon. Like many schools in our district, our school population is very diverse, with over 25 different languages spoken and 100% receive free lunch. My students are energetic, smart, and thoughtful fourth graders who are eager to learn. My class consists of students with mixed abilities, languages and cultural backgrounds. For many of my students, school provides safety, stability, food and support that they don’t have at home.
I want to expose my students to acomplished people through a biography project and need a variety of books for them to read as reserach.
My Project
My students are in need of a variety of current biography books to choose from to create a project about their special person. By selecting names that my students are familiar with like Jeff Kinney and Bill Gates, they are more likely to be excited to investigate and learn. My students will read a biography of their choice and complete an organizer filling in facts about their person. Next, they will type a report about their famous person and then give an oral presentation using related props to the famous person. The remaining students will complete a short activity about each presentation that will result in a mini-book about all of the famous people.
