"We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teacher's hand, because it is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world." -David Warlick
My students are bright 4th graders who come to school excited to learn.
Although they come from a disadvantaged and impoverished area, they exceed expectations. In our Title I school, my students have little opportunity to interact with technology. There are no computers in my classroom for student use and incorporating technology into our curriculum has been a challenge due to lack of school funds.
My students need one iPad to advance reading/math skills and engage them in our technologically driven world. With another iPad, our classroom will be transformed into a technologically enriched learning environment. The iPad will be used through whole group engaging instruction, small group intervention, and individual practice. Students will be able to access multiple math and literacy fluency applications that will increase their motivation, activate their prior knowledge, and showcase their skill improvement. My classroom would like to purchase and use through our new iPad apps which teach math fluency interactively, provide multiplication practice, allow students to read grade level texts, check their comprehension, and engage them in focused discussion, inspire student created cartoon stories with a focus on story elements, aid students who struggle with parts of a sentence, and allow students to add visuals and dialogue to create a story.
By providing an iPad in our classroom, my students will be able to become part of a technological community that encourages problem solving, creativity, and educational success.
