Help me give my students gel tiles for sensory exploration and a sight word engagement pack to increase word recognition. Also my students need a light table and manipulatives to reinforce math and literacy concepts.
My students need a place just for them! Help me transform my regular classroom into an extraordinary place for my students. We would like to convert a corner into a sensory integration area!
My classroom is a separate setting, exceptional children's classroom with eight students.
Students range in grades from kindergarten to third grade. The students in my classroom all have learning disabilities, ranging from mild to moderate delays and Autism. In addition, my students also have fine and gross motor delays and some have communication delays. These students come from various backgrounds but all are eager to learn! All of these exceptionalities are part of what makes my students so special and unique. Each one has their own way of thinking about the world. Our school has 450 students. We are a high poverty, Title I school in a rural area.
My Project
Sensory integration is crucial in an exceptional children’s classroom. The sensory tiles will provide this kind of oasis in the classroom. These students thrive in environments that are calming and visually stimulating. It will assist the students in regulating their own behaviors in order to be more successful.
Students need opportunities for kinesthetic learning.
It is a more engaging way to learn and can lead to increased retention, offer practice in problem solving/critical thinking, and often results in a physical creation.
The light table and manipulatives will help my students to work on sorting, patterns, geometry through, one to one correspondence, and counting. Not only will this help my students with math skills, it will also help them with language arts. Students can practice spelling their name, sight words, and letter recognition. This not only gives my students a different way to learn these skills, but will also help my students to learn how to share and take turns. The sight word engagement pack includes everything needed to play a hands-on game that boosts sight-word skills and reinforces concepts that have been taught.
