My students need a way to have read aloud books displayed for them. A library display would encourage a love of reading with books that students could read over and over again.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in my classroom work hard everyday. Coming from diverse backgrounds and high-needs families, my students work on building GRIT and perseverance. We are a Title I school district, and provide free breakfast and lunch to all our students.
My students work hard everyday to overcome challenges and rise to the occasion.
Part of my job is to make those challenges seem fun and exciting. Next school year we will be focusing on a relentless culture of reading. My student need easy access to engaging texts.
My Project
Next school year, as I have stated earlier, my district will be implementing a relentless culture of reading. Our goal as a district is to have every student reading by the age of nine. As a first grade teacher, that means I have to work to lay the foundation of reading. Not only will I need to provide the skills necessary to read words in a book, but also make reading joyful and engaging. So many students come into first grade disliking reading.
It is my intention to build that love of reading through read alouds that students can read, reread, and read again.
By displaying the books that I have already read aloud, students are able to jump into a text they have already read and loved. This builds their understanding that reading is enjoyable and fun!
With this new initiative of creating a relentless culture of reading, I will be conducting several read alouds a day. I would love to display the stories in way that promotes students rereading the stories they loved, or even sharing them with others. A library display like this one would be a wonderful addition to my classroom.
