My middle school students attend a PreK-12th grade school in a very small rural town. Our school has a student body population of approximately 300 students. A number of our students are residents at a children's home that serves disadvantaged children, as well as single-mother families. Our small school size fosters a very loving and close-knit community, but it also makes it so that our students do not always have as many resources or opportunities as their peers at larger schools.
My Project
Middle school math can be challenging, but my students are more focused and are more willing to attempt challenging math problems when they are also enjoying the lesson. One way I have found to make math more engaging is by creating games.
My students are noticeably more engaged in their work when they are participating in an activity or game that not only teaches a math concept, but allows them to have some fun while learning!
The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them a more engaging classroom. These products will allow us to play games while practicing new math concepts. The spinner will be used to randomly choose numbers and/or prizes. The basketball hoop will be used to shoot for points after answering a math question correctly. The color printer and ink will be used to print off classroom activities, such as math game boards, math scavenger hunts, and math escape room activities.
I have seen how lessons and activities that are engaging can positively affect my students' willingness to attempt difficult problems and hope that the additional options will help them grow even more!
