Help me give my students chef aprons and hats for a Fraction Pizzeria, Pop It math games for addition & subtraction fluency practice, and desk pets and accessories for setting goals.
My students are smart, curious, fun-loving, creative, hardworking, helpful, and kind. My 21 students represent countries all over the world, as well as learning levels from kindergarten to fifth grade. Some of my students need daily intervention while others need daily enrichment.
My school consists of about 1,000 students of diverse backgrounds and diverse learning abilities.
We have a growing population of ELL students and students for which we implement interventions in reading and math, as well as students needing enrichment to acquire success for their educational needs.
Our school does not receive Title I funding; therefore, the technology that we have in our classroom is limited and has to be funded through other means. Our school has an amazing administration and staff who are dedicated to meet each of these diverse needs. The environment of our school is warm, nurturing, and respectful.
My Project
I am asking for chef aprons and chef hats for a Fraction Pizzeria I do each year once students have learned about fractions. They become chefs and have to work as a team to complete 60 pizza orders in 45 minutes in our pizza shop. The pizza orders all include the use of fractions so they are applying what they learned as they complete the challenge. I am also asking for Pop It math games that allow for 2 players to race to get to 60. They would roll 2 dice and add or subtract to find the sum or difference and then get to pop that number on their side of the game board. I know this would quickly become a favorite math game to use to practice their math fact fluency. Finally, I am asking for supplies to help my students be able to earn desk pets and accessories throughout the year. Desk Pets are little characters/erasers that students will adopt to be their desk pet. Throughout the year they will be able to earn accessories and pretend food for their desk pets when they meet individual goals or work as a class to meet goals that we set together.
I am always thinking of new ways to make learning fun each day so that my students are happy to come to school and are motivated to do their very best.
Keeping my students engaged in their learning is extremely important to me.
