Help me give my students the learning materials they need to be engaged during small groups and rotations. These activities will help them learn while I help my small groups learn specific skills.
Parkwood is a school in close proximity to the Research Triangle Park. This means the backgrounds are various and the students tend to be very transient. We have a community outreach called The Mobile Food Pantry. We have a group of parents who go to various stores and restaurants and collect donations of food and other items such as clothing. Once a month on Saturday families come to Parkwood to pick up bags of groceries to help them make ends meet. We also deliver meals on holidays such as Christmas andThanksgiving to families in need. During the summer entire neighborhoods are given breakfast and lunch because we know that sometimes when students are not in school they don't have enough food.
My students are a wonderful mix of cultures, backgrounds, abilities and personalities.
They come in every morning ready to learn and explore. I could not be more proud of the effort they make every day to learn and the progress I see every day as they grow academically, socially and emotionally.
My Project
Best practices show that small groups in both reading and math are critical to students' ability to succeed in learning. The other 14-16 students who are not in my group are working independently in small groups and this is challenging for Kindergarten students! Sight words are important in students learning to read. The sight word activities will reinforce the work we are doing daily with sight words. The phonics games will help my students practice reading independently daily. The math activities will reinforce what we are learning in math. All these activities will be purposeful and impactful to my students learning how to read and do math independently while I help students in my small group learn targeted skills they need.
