I teach 25 amazingly creative 4th and 5th graders in an urban setting. Our school is very diverse. From economic to family and ethnic diversity, we celebrate everyone. We are also an inclusive school, which means that every class has children with special needs. We teach a peaceful approach to learning together and celebrate our differences.
My students are dreamers, thinkers, talkers, and questioners.
They are mini sources of inspiration to themselves and others around them, even if they don't know it yet. They are budding ambassadors, world travelers, scientists, entrepreneurs, and teachers. They are our future, and I want to give them a great start to their long, successful careers.
These graphic novels will be a fantastic culminating unit for us. From making inferences, identifying text features, noting the development of characters, and identifying theme within a text - these highly-engaging texts will provide my students the opportunity to put their learning into action. Applying the 'skills' we have learned this school year to graphic novels will build my students' confidence in their reading ability, as well as, their mastery of the 4th and 5th grade Common Core. These graphic novels will be fantastic resource in our unit of study, as well as, highly sought after additions to our classroom library.
The best way to become a better and more fluent reader is to read more!
These graphic novels will engage, support, and motivate my struggling readers. I teach because I love kids, and I believe learning is beautiful. I want students leaving my classroom knowing that they are dearly loved and that reading is wonderful. Your donation will develop my student's desire to read!
