My students need great literature to practice/review our fourth grade literature standards. It is very important for students to see and be engaged in excellent novels to help find their love of reading.
Our school is a Title I school in Hampstead, North Carolina. Our school services students from Pre-K through 5th grade. Our school is experiencing tremendous growth and resources are limited.
My group of students will be a mixed ability group with many different interests and backgrounds.
They love to learn and take on new adventures.
This year I am thrilled to have taken on a new adventure in fourth grade. I teach two classes of fourth grade students. I have the opportunity to teach ELA and Social Studies. This year I have been able to share some amazing books with my students. They love being read to and they share their excitement about reading with me. Thanks to a great group of parents in our classroom, we have been able to add to our read aloud and mentor text collection. Next, I would love to get some great literature into my students' hands. I want them to continue to be excited about reading. I would like to add several sets of books to our classroom so that I can share this great literature with my small guided reading groups and as a shared reading.
My Project
My students need great books that have excellent examples of figurative language and are good examples of great writing. I want to continue to grow my students' love of reading. They have read some great books in class this year and I want to be able to introduce them to some wonderful authors to help them continue to thrive and grow as readers.
I would like to use these books in guided reading groups as well as a whole class shared reading.
During these times, we will have great discussions regarding what is happening in the stories. It is a great way to review the different fictional reading standards that we have learned this year.
