Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is in a humble, middle-class neighborhood in Texas. Although our school did not flood, many of our students were affected by the hurricane in August 2017. I have a class of 19 kindergarteners who do literacy (reading and writing) stations daily.
Kindergarteners need novelty, novelty, novelty to stay interested and engaged in tasks.
The hands on work in our classroom has to compete with the fun games, toys, and technology that they use at home. I need to keep station activities new, interesting, and fun to help keep them on task during this crucial block of time in our day.
My Project
Each year, my kindergarten students start school at many different levels of learning. I need literacy activities what reflect the levels at which my individual students are learning.
In order to help meet my kids at their learning level, I frequently turn to Lakeshore Learning Materials.
Activities like their Write the Letters Activity Center are perfect for students who are learning the alphabet or working on legible handwriting. The Short Vowels Instant Learning Center that I requested would work well for my students who are right on track, but may need more practice with those tricky vowel sounds in reading and writing. The Sound Switch Instant Learning Center would be a great challenge for my higher students who need to work on making new words by adding or changing letters to existing words.
