My students are very active second graders. After missing months of school these past two years, they have many educational gaps to fill. They are lower in math than reading, which is unusual since the other classes in our grade are the opposite with lower reading scores than math. They have also missed a lot of building relationships and collaborative work practice over the past two years. They need experience working in groups and with partners to strengthen these areas. My class would benefit from interesting and engaging activities to promote math. They get excited about STEM projects and need more of these type of learning experiences to help them build critical thinking skills and improve in math. These Science, technology, engineering, and math materials would be a great addition to our classroom. They will help engage my students and motivate them to learn while sparking their interest and building inquiry skills.
My Project
These STEM activities and technology will help fill the gap left by missing school due to the pandemic. My students will work in small groups with the STEM bins and math games. They will experience Science and technology using the interactive globe and headsets. The coding robot will provide an introduction to coding and increase critical thinking. The document camera will be used to put math activities onto our Smartboard and increase student engagement. My students need to have these engaging activities to improve their learning and increase their knowledge in STEM.
