My Students
Technology is becoming a huge piece of students education. As a teacher I want to be able to provide new technology products in the classroom so students can engage in their learning and also learn how to take math test on these pieces of technology.
My students come from diverse backgrounds.
Some of the students are middle class, while many of them are from a lower economic community. My class has about 82% receiving free and reduced price lunch. Even though some of my kids have a tough life at home, they come to school eager to learn. They want to do well and they want to understand the content that is being taught. I want to be able to bring in as many resources for these students because I know many of them don't have the resources at home. I know many of the students go to the library when they can just to use the Internet.
My Project
The iPads and Microsoft Surface Pro will be used during students math workshop time as a new center for students to go to. I have asked for 5 iPad minis and 1 Microsoft Surface Pro because I want students to learn how to use both layouts. They are very different and I want my students to feel successful using Apples and Microsoft's processors. Students will be using the both tablets to play math games and also do practice state testing. Students use paper and pencil right now to practice testing, however we are starting to test them on the computers and having this technology accessible to the students will allow them to become more comfortable taking a test on the tablets or computers. These tablets will also be used for the 5 special needs students in my classroom. I will be able to set up appropriate games for them, which will allow them to engage in their learning when it is difficult to do so in a whole class setting.
State testing is now requiring students to take their state test on the computer.
Well, if teachers don't have access to the technology for students to practice on, how are they expected to succeed? This donation will allow students to practice testing and also practice other skills on the tablets and become more proficient at using them.
