Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are just entering middle school. They come to me with a wide range of experiences in school and with education. Some come with varying levels of English. Some have already faced challenges many adults never have to face. Yet, they come to school with smiles on their faces and hope in their hearts.

My students are thirsty for the best education.

They are tired of the old ways of school and are ready for the new. Just the mention of technology gets their attention. The involvement in a hands-on task lights their fire to learn and to discover more. They are curious about science and the earth.

Sometimes they come with misinformation or only partial understanding. I love to see their minds click as they piece together the facts. The students are eager to help each other reach these new levels of understanding. They love to talk to their peers and engage in learning as a group.

My Project

Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) are the way of the future.

As I prepare my 6th grade science students for jobs that are yet to be created, I need technology that keeps up with present times!

A Digital Microscope and 3D Printer will do just that.

A Digital Microscope and 3D printer will allow my students to study the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) in a real and engaging way. Students will be able to make and view their own slides to learn about cells and the natural world. A 3D printer will engage students' artistic and mathematical side as they have to reason through the creation of a 3D object.

My students love technology and current events. Once engaged in the learning students are eager to learn more. The Science World Scholastic Classroom Magazines are an engaging and fun way to learn about current events in science. These magazines offer engaging topics to students and encourage them to want to know more. They are a great way to get kids reading and learning!

Not all my students have access to technology. Some don't have computers or internet at home. It is my responsibility, as a classroom teacher, to ensure they have the best access to technology to ensure they have the best chance at education. When my students try something new their eyes light up. When we talk about technology and current events the chatter escalates and the energy rises. This is where wonderful sharing and collaboration occurs. I can only take it to the next level with the materials I have requested. I have limited resources within my classroom. I want to open doors for my students and build on their interests.
