Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are eager and excited to learn. I love creating a classroom environment that gives them choice and ownership of their learning time. They work in groups and partners a lot and I want different spaces for them to do these activities and show their best learning. I know the more they buy into our classroom, the more they'll grow!
I want to start making parts of our classroom different getaways and sections that they can go to, based on their needs and feelings that day.
My Project
I have moved to 4th grade this year, and because I am coming from 1st grade, I do not have the resources to support my students in their individualized learning. I want my students to have a large amount of choice in their individual learning time so I have tried to pick many different topics and tasks for them to use, allowing them to focus on their specific needs. I have also selected various levels so my students can practice things that they may not have mastered in a lower grade helping them fill in learning gaps they may have.
I have selected Discovery Cans for many different math standards so my students can engage in productive cooperatively learning and gain a stronger understanding of numbers and their relationships.
I have included discovery cans that help students practice place value, fractions, measurement and and algebraic thinking. I have put discovery cans of various levels so that even if a student is struggling at grade level, they will be able to engage and practice the same standards more catered to their level. The discovery cans are all group activities, so students are not only practicing a skill, but also how to work and communicate with others. In addition I have included discovery cans that focus on some comprehension skills I see my students struggling with.
