This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"Math has a lot of negative stereotypes, but it can actually be fun and incredibly empowering." - Danica McKellar
I have the privilege of academically motivating and challenging an amazingly curious and enthusiastic bunch of students.
They enjoy working and thinking together, as well as playing math games. Our students LOVE to learn. They are also super competitive and love to win! Our classrooms are boundless learning communities where students aspire to their dreams, and success is expected of all.
My Project
A challenge that has presented itself to teachers and students is math fluency. Although students are working on higher level math skills, the basics can sometimes be a problem. Tournaments are an excellent vehicle for propelling students into the world of mathematics.
Lots of energy is needed to mentally solve math problems within seconds, so I am requesting snacks for students to eat before and after the tournament.
Items to go inside of their participation bags like bracelets and erasers are also needed to reward students for their hard work and effort.
Benefits for students will include the chance to participate, enjoy, and experience a Math 24 Competition. This competition will engage the community by involving parents and families as volunteers in the goal to raise mathematics achievement among students.
