My Students

Our students attend an urban public school in Massachusetts. Forty percent of our students are Engish language learners. Many of our students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds. They are a very diverse group containing many cultures from around the world.

The middle school students I work with come from diverse background both ethnically and financially.

Many of my students do not have the funds to shop freely for items they or family members need. Warm clothing and toiletries are often thought of as a luxury item.

My Project

One of the sixth grade standards states that the students need to understand that waves are one way that energy moves. This is a really big idea for 11-year-old to grasp. In developing lessons to help build experiences with the physics of waves I realized I need a few supplies to enhance the learning.

Having tuning forks and Slinkys to experiment and discover with will help make the idea of waves and energy come to life.

Please help my students experience the physics around waves and how they transfer energy.
