My Project

I have had the great pleasure of learning about different experiments with energy, motion, and of course the Rube Goldberg machines.

Students love working with their hands and trying to figure out how to make items work.

In the fall, in fourth grade, we teach our students about potential and kinetic energy, objects that are in motion stay in motion, and what a Rube Goldberg machine is. This past school year I have seen other teachers create experiments for students to use their creativity and hands in making their own experiments. The marbles and marble mazes are in pieces and the students will need to create different marble runs to demonstrate potential and kinetic energy. Newton's Cradles will demonstrate objects that are in motion, stay in motion. The Hot Wheels and the tracks the students will experiment with friction, transferring energy, and of course potential and kinetic energy. Now as for the balls, toothbrushes, and skateboards, these are for our culminating science experiment in energy. In small groups, the students will be expected to create a Rube Goldberg machine to make the ball roll down the skateboard onto a tube of toothpaste and they must get toothpaste to pop onto a toothbrush. Of course, they will have to use the scientific method for these experiments.
