Help me give my students the ability to develop concepts and skills related to our units on Electricity, Magnetism, and Light, where we will create light-up cards, explore magnetic energy, and see the colors of the spectrum.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
SOMS is situated outside of Washington, DC, in Prince George's County Maryland. 24% of the 800+ students qualify for free or reduced lunch subsidy.

Much of my curriculum is hands-on through both virtual and real lab activities. Additionally, I also enhance our curriculum with arts integration activities related to our units. Learning science is more fun and more real when students are able to manipulate materials to learn concepts.
My Project
I'm so excited to teach our ENERGY UNIT! Students will be engaged in hands-on learning during this great unit. Materials will encourage student discussion and generate lots of interest.
Students will create light up cards with copper tape and LED lights as an Arts Integration lesson.
Students will use bar magnets to explore the magnetic field it creates and explore their magnetic properties. Students will also be able to see the colors of the spectrum using the demonstration model using a prism.
Students enjoy creating light-up cards and sharing them with family and friends. Thank you for helping support our classroom!
