My Project

My gifted students struggle with thinking on a global level. As fourth graders, they are only aware of what is happening in their own backyards. They do not realize their place on a great big planet.

Climate change is a planetary problem, but it can have local solutions.

By learning how to harness the energy of the sun in an enclosed system such as a greenhouse, students can see for themselves how to harnass the power of renewable energy.

Learning about the environment helps kids understand nature, think about how to solve problems, care for the Earth, and make it a better place for everyone. This project will focus on constructing biodomes to observe, experiment, collaborate, and think critically about natural ecosystems in miniature.

They will determine and place rock and soil components, plant and label seeds, and track germination and growth. We are requesting Dunecraft Sensory Eco-Biosphere Plant Domes with 5 Different Seeds. Each class will store their biomes in different locations under a variety of conditions. They will keep a journal documenting what they observe and measure. As they analyze data from their mini-ecosystems, they will also research the effect of climate change in their own communities and across the globe.
