"Energy and Persistence Conquer All"-Benjamin Franklin. Franklin presence fills Mr. W's classroom. When challenged, we ask, "What Would Ben Do?' Franklin serves as a role model who always searched for more in name of human progress. If only Franklin's praise could invent us a projector...
My students are ripe for change.
It is in this most important time of their lives that they create foundational habits. My twelve, thirteen, and fourteen year old kids grow up a community of Massachusetts. A large, post industrial town, this town is dubbed in poverty. Sporting a 53% high school graduation rate, many students in this community lack the support needed to have the opportunity to obtain a higher education, or even just graduate high school. They look like a true product of their environment, but they are children none the less. My students are immature, they laugh, they make fart noises, they think their breakup with their 8th grade crush is the end of the world, they ask ridiculous questions, and they love Justin Bieber. My students are like so many other students - they don't always understand why they are the way they are. I am a firm believer that every single child in this world can learn. Far too often, all they need is a bit of a push from someone who cares.
My Project
All that I want for my classroom is a multimedia projector. I recently purchased a mac computer so I can use its versatility in my classroom, but I cannot afford the luxury of a media projector having been denied any opportunity to get one through my school. This resource will completely change the dynamic of my classroom. I will connect media to classroom learning so students can engage in a variety of ways. I want my students to see and learn what science is out there in the world! Quite frankly, we live in a different age. Don't get me wrong, books and taking notes will never go out of style, but to kids the most intriguing part of class is when the lights go dim and multimedia is used. Through personal interest, I have accumulated an immense array of online science videos that I would love to share with my students. My personal love for science was encouraged because of the knowledge I learned through media education. This resource will take my class to the highest level.
It is really difficult to keep middle school students engaged in the material.
Despite science's natural excitement, it has become a burden to continuously force flat and boring whiteboard notes on my students. I want to be able to make my classroom come ALIVE! I want my students to have a true appreciation for science. I want to show them the beautiful wonder of the world and gain the desire for continuous adventure. A multimedia projector will turn my science class in something truly special
