Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from southeast Houston. Most of my students are on free or reduced-price lunch. The apartments that surround the school, where the majority of the students live, were so devastated by Hurricane Harvey that most of my students' apartments were flooded and they needed to evacuate.

Most of my students are now living with extended family, friends, or in a shelter.

Their lives changed drastically just within that horrible week of the Hurricane. I want to continue to support them now that we are back in school. School should be the place they feel safe.

My Project

My second graders are full of energy when they come to school. It would be so great if we could get some Wobble chairs for the students that need to move around a little more in their seats. This would help them be able to release their energy and not get into as much trouble and also to finish their work. Hopefully , with them able to concentrate more on their work and not getting into trouble, it will mean higher grades and better self esteem about school. I have seen my fellow teachers use them and they have really liked them . So I want to give them a try with my class.
