Our students love music. They are passionate about music and music-making. Music is what keeps them motivated to come to school. They excel in music, despite our school being situated in the midst of five federal housing projects.
Most, if not all, of our students come from homes of highest poverty.
Our school has at a 70% highly disadvantaged rate.
Beautiful music comes out of our orchestra room. Our students play with great passion. Music is what they excel at. Our students would never have been able to play in an orchestra were it not for the school orchestra program.
My Project
The electric viola will be used in many ways for our school Orchestra program. It will be used to integrate technology into our Orchestra class by enabling recording, mixing, composing, and sound amplification capabilities. Students will be able to play a more varied genre of music including rock, jazz, classical, folk, and more due to the wider range of tone capabilities on the electric viola. This will further motivate our highly impoverished and military students and community which our school serves. The school lives of our students will be greatly improved because of this new electric viola due to increased learning and motivation which will take place. We will proudly be able to serve our students and military families and community through our school Orchestra and with the many performances we have in the community and school.
