My students are from an urban district that offers an International Baccculurate and STEM curriculum that is designed to help students become internationally minded people who, recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help create a better and more peaceful world. IB students are curious, fully engaged citizens, who both embrace their own culture and are open and responsive to other cultures and views.
Our STEM curriculum is the intentional integration of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, and their associated practices to create a student-centered learning environment in which students investigate and engineer solutions to problems, and construct evidence-based explanations of real-world phenomena with a focus on a student’s social, emotional, physical, and academic needs through shared contributions of schools, families, and community partners.
Moreover, our program is designed to develop the whole child intellectually, socially, aesthetically, and culturally through the perspectives of global contexts. It encourages students to respect and understand the world around them, and to provide a skills base to facilitate further learning. This is achieved through the study of individuals, societies, and environments in a wide context: historical, geographical, political, social, economic, technological, and cultural.
My Project
Every student is creative, inventive, and imaginative. I believe that everyone can create the future and change the world. One of the many great hands-on learning benefits is that hands-on learning helps to stimulate growth on both sides of the brain. Hands-on learning is a more engaging way to learn, it can lead to increased retention, it can offer practice in problem-solving and critical thinking, and results in physical creation.
Makey Makey is an invention kit for the 21st century that will spark students' creativity in unique and fun ways and provide thousands of possibilities to build, interact, and inspire.
Students will be able to turn everyday objects into touchpads and combine them with the internet. It's a simple Invention Kit for Beginners and Experts doing art, engineering, and everything in between. I want to help my students to start thinking of themselves as Makers and agents of change. When you have the "Maker's Mindset," you know you can change the world.
Students need to learn how to be innovative and adaptable to change. It is essential to offer students the ability to create environments where they can take risks in their learning. The use of Makey Makey will help students to gain and develop knowledge, conceptual understanding, research skills, analytical and interpretive skills, and communication skills.
