This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Last year was the first year students at our school had music class in almost 10 years. The students were able to experience different genres of music both inside and outside of the classroom which they had never experienced before. I want to make this year even better. I work at a Title I school where 96% of students receive free and reduced price breakfast and lunch. I want my classroom to be a place where students can express themselves freely through music.
My Project
The way I will utilize the requested materials in the classroom is by improving the condition of instruments both in sound and aesthetically. We need end pins, shoulder rests, and music for orchestra class. These materials will help students hold their instruments more comfortably and more correctly. I will be able to add an additional class of students to help the orchestra grow. My students will be able to perform in more concerts both in and out of school.
Having a strings class helps students grow to understand how to be independent and collaborate.
It also helps students become risk takers and encourages open-mindedness. My students have become more confident in themselves; they take great pride in being young musicians. My hope is to continue to let this confidence and pride flourish throughout the entire school.
