This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is made up of students from a variety of backgrounds. I have students from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, and various parts of the U.S. Second grade is an exciting time, and each of my students brings something new and creative to offer to our class community.
The school itself sits in a neighborhood that is considered historic and is home to many ESL families.
Our school is a Title I community that desires to serve and grow our students.
My Project
What a year this has been! Students have endured at least 8 schedule changes (remote, partial in person, hybrid, remote, and so on) and all sorts of daily schedule changes. Having a hybrid class has been a challenging experience for us all. My team and I would like to still be able to provide a celebration for our learners regardless of if they are in the building with us, or still learning from home. We hope to gift students a bag with sunglasses, chalk, bubbles, and have a fun send off to Summer. We will be able to have a day of fun by recognizing hard work, and then having an afternoon of fun with our individual bags of goodies.
This project also contains a book that we all fell in love with, Sulwe, written by Lupita Nyong'o which has the most beautiful message and illustrations, and a laminator to be able to save work.
We are also in need of storage containers for end of year classroom pack-up to protect books and other classroom items so that they don't get lost or damaged during summer cleaning.
