Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I work with an amazing group of students in my new middle school. We have 3 specialized classrooms that serve students on the Autism spectrum with a variety of support needs.
We have been practicing our functional communication skills all year, and now we are trying to end the year with a bang as we apply our skills in a multi-week project planning a trip!
The students voted, and wanted to have a project based on a trip to Universal Studios in Orlando. With many Potter fans in the mix, we want to celebrate the end of our project with a hands-on day reflecting opportunities in the park.
Materials from this Donors Choose project will be used to allow students role-play opportunities for "buying" items and experiences from the park; waiting in lines for attractions and taking turns; understanding and requesting accommodations; telling others about their experiences through narratives; and participating in practice employment experiences (taking tickets, serving food, etc).
