Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

This school year, we have built a comprehensive approach to attendance that included outreach to families, interclass competitions and avoiding recognizing students for only perfect attendance.

Creating a school-wide culture of attendance and having a deep commitment to ensuring students are engaged in the classroom once they show up has a great deal to do with our success.

Awarding students, families and classrooms this year has led to LEAP Academy having the highest attendance on a monthly basis within our entire school district. We recognized students for 90% or better attendance each month.

With our improved attendance from last year, we have seen an increase in academic achievement amongst our students.

We would like to use the cotton candy machine, popcorn machine, and snow-cone machine, and decorations to reward student's with an end of year attendance celebration. Students that achieved 90% or better attendance for the entire year will be invited to celebrate.
