My Students

I teach a phenomenal fifth grade class at a TK-5 school in Southern California. The school I work at has won California Distinguished School in 2020 and is a finalist for the National Center for Urban School Transformation Award. Our students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds but they always make the most of what we have. Our school population is largely Hispanic with a very large population of English Language Learners.

Every student enrolled at our school receives free breakfast and lunch daily.

I am constantly amazed by all the challenges presented to these students each day. They enter the classroom each day ready and willing to learn! I am proud to be their teacher.

My Project

For this project I am requesting a class set of bubble wands and mini eight inch beach balls.

Every year at the end of the year I have "Lunch on the Lawn" and Field Day on the last day of school.

Our Lunch on the Lawn is an end of the year potluck where we bring blankets and beach balls and sit outside and share our last meal before heading to middle school. Parents come and eat as well. The bubble wands will be used as they eat outside, it makes for a really nice afternoon meal. Our Field Day is an all day game day outside, where we are in groups and we rotate around stations. On this day I like to give the students a beach ball to keep and we go around the classroom signing the beach ball with everyone's name. The students truly love this!
