Ms. Hall from Baltimore MD is requesting computers & tablets through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a iMac desktop and a Cricut machine to create end of the year posters of what they have learned to share with the rest of the student body.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My third graders attend an urban, Title I school in Baltimore City. Despite the challenges they may face, my students are enthusiastic about learning and care to do well in school. My students come from diverse backgrounds and have a wide variety of needs and issues.
Our school sits on the outskirts of the city, and many of my students are affected by the negative issues that plague our city such as violence and poverty.
Unfortunately, their enthusiasm is often met with an overwhelming lack of resources. The staff at our school is extremely dedicated and work together to provide students with as many opportunities and resources as possible, but there is still so much that our classrooms need.
My students are capable of performing—and expected to perform—on a high level and meet the Common Core Standards, but they need the technology and resources to do so.
I am requesting a iMac desktop and a Cricut machine for my students to help them create beautiful end of the year projects/posters. These materials will allow my students to show their creativity representing the different skills they have learned and mastered throughout the school year. The iMac desktop will be used for creating the designs and transferring the designs to the Cricut machine. The Cricut machine will cut out the students' designs to be displayed on their posters.
By donating to this project, you will be giving my students the opportunity to explore their creative side and allowing them to discover the cross-curriculum integration between math, art, and science.
They will be using math by choosing a skill that they have mastered throughout the year to focus on. The art comes into play when they have to create their posters and the science will be used through the engineering design process. It will allow the students to brainstorm first, create a plan such as a prototype, then actually creating the posters, and last but not least, allowing the students to go back and make changes. It also gives my students the chance to use technology since technology is a big push inside and outside the classroom.
I want to be able to give my students the opportunities that will not only allow them to grow but also help them think critically and outside of the "box". Thanks for your support so that we can get my students' creative juices flowing!
