To Whom It May Concern (or rather, To the Admirable Person Who is Concerned About Education!): I am a first-year, fifth grade teacher at Willow Creek Academy in Sausalito, California. We are a charter school that is relatively new to the area; I believe this is our sixth year of service in the district. We are a growing institution with limited instructional materials, and my class of 10 students (whom I will likely work with next year in the sixth grade) is in need of many things, primarily updated reference materials. Currently, we have one children's dictionary (borrowed from another classroom), a set of encyclopedias from the 1980s (of which we are missing the "P" and "B"), and two outdated globes. We are a resourceful bunch; we work with what we have with a positive attitude. However, it would greatly enhance the quality of these students' education to have access to a classroom set of encyclopedias. I wish to offer my students the opportunity to learn with resources that reflect, at the very least, factual, updated information about the state of the world! We would be grateful to have access within our classroom to such reference materials. I strongly believe that this would positively affect the climate of learning in the classroom for this group.
