This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are special because 85% receive free and reduced lunch and many struggle with their reading skills. The novel The Magician's Elephant by Kate DiCamillo will encourage my students to read independently and improve their reading skills. It will also help my students to see connections with other texts that they have read that share the same theme. By including the novel The Magician's Elephant in our unit's curriculum, I hope to use the novel as a springboard for creative writing activities. Also, reading the novel will enable my students to explore important life lessons such as hope, perseverance, and the kindness of the human spirit.
