This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
During the 10th grade, my students are working on identifying and analyzing genre components of various books. With this project, students are able to expand their options of the books that they can read to develop their literary analysis skills.
It is important that my students have access to books that are written by authors of color, to expand their knowledge of experiences and identities that are both similar and different to their own.
Throughout the past month, my students have read the book, "The Poet X" by Elizabeth Acevedo. For some of my students, this is the first time that they are invested in reading outside of the classroom. Through this project, I hope to continue developing my students' love for reading, in addition to their literacy skills.
