Encouraging Peer Interaction Through Social Emotional Learning!
My students need kids magnet building toys, Skoolzy Straws and Connectors, wooden town play sets and other sensory toys to increase peer interaction, encourage problem solving and provide real-world applications to what they are learning!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is a hidden gem located in Gaithersburg, MD. There is both a home school model and Aspergers program at our school. I teach kindergarten and work to help motivate around 24 life long learners each year along with 5 other K teachers. I work with a diverse group of students with many needs, but all ready for success and ready to grow and explore.
Although my students come into my classroom from very different backgrounds, with different experiences and learning styles, the one thing all of my students find out very quickly is that they are loved, they will succeed and I believe in them.
We have fun learning and we work to make my favorite quote from Gandhi come to life -"Be the change you wish to see in the world!"
This coming year we will continue encouraging kindness and spreading happiness around our school and our world in any way we can. Our school is very inclusive and our kids are quick to accept others and try to understand different needs, rather than make judgements. I am thankful to work with many passionate students and teachers and I want the best for them.
My Project
I feel very passionate about this project. With the academic pressures in Elementary Schools today, it is not often that children have the opportunity to "play" or build their emotional literacy. In my classroom, I try to embed these opportunities, but my students need more educational toys that will encourage these natural peer interactions and also help them to problem-solve and express their emotions!
Students deserve an environment that promotes child engagement with opportunities to explore, create, imagine and express themselves through meaningful learning centers.
The resources I have requested will help students do just that. There are so many social emotional skills that students need as they enter Kindergarten such as the capacity to develop good relationships, concentration, persistence, the ability to problem solve and even communicate emotions. When students don't know how to read we teach. When they don't know how to write...we teach, but when students don't know how to interact with peers and express their emotions appropriately we don't always teach this. I would love to focus on teaching these skills this year and the resources will help me build relationships with my children and also help them learn to play and interact with each other.
The fidgets/weighted snake I have requested will help me provide opportunities for students to manage their personal stress in situations and find ways to calm their bodies. The capes will help me implement the idea of a "SUPER FRIEND" where I can recognize students who are interacting positively with their peers. The dramatic play sets/books will give students opportunities to make real world connections & tie into our study of culture, community workers and more. The magna tiles & stretchy straws will help me incorporate the STEM process. SO EXCITING! Thank you for placing an importance on social emotional learning!
