Help me give my students dynamic games to learn the ChooseMyPlate Wellness Program
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. I. Brennan's classroom raised $236

My Project
My school is located on a residential treatment facility which is the home of most of our at-risk adolescents. Many children have experienced past trauma requiring a therapeutic approach to instruction. They are challenged academically, socially, and require extraordinary support. With it all, the students are delightful! They are active, caring, resilient, and eager to succeed. As an educator, I am determined to motivate and guide them to realize their greatest potential.
I use a wide range of tactile activities to involve, educate and, hopefully, bring joy to my students lives.
The students look forward to activities where they handle materials and leave the classroom with valuable life skills. Please help me obtain supplies to teach nutrition using hands-on activities in an engaging way. Students especially love puzzles and board games.
I aim for students to prepare healthy meals for themselves, their extended communities while exposing them to dynamic occupations in the hospitality industry. This extends way beyond restaurants to include food product development, dietetics and holistic farm-to-table practices. The inspiration leads to either enrollment in a trade school or entry level job in a local food service establishment. I expand on concepts introduced in the core subject classes, especially mathematics and science. Students learn best by making connections. In the process, students discover unique dining traditions from around the world. Students love working with food. And, of course, enjoying the product of their efforts. Students tell me they "come to school for my class." Please help me keep our youth motivated, inspired, and nourished. Thank you!
