My students are an amazing group of kids who come from all walks of life. 100% of the students at our school receive free lunch. They need, and deserve, a quality classroom library filled with a variety of literature, so that they can become independent, life-long readers!
For my students, coming to school gives them an escape and, a way to show all they are capable of achieving in life.
My goal is to make their educational experience as exciting, meaningful, and positive as possible.
My Project
As a reading teacher, I find the most important part of my job is to first build a love of reading within my students. To do this, my classroom library must have an extensive variety of choices to meet their interests. With recent budget cuts, teachers are having to furnish much of their own classroom libraries. Books can be expensive, and when you multiply the cost of books, with buying books at several different reading levels, for students with a wide range of interests, you can see that it is nearly impossible for one person to stock a classroom library that is going to meet the needs of all students.
In order for students to be excited about reading, they must have books that catch their interest!
They need a variety of fiction and nonfiction texts. With the lack of books, students often run out of new books to read during their independent reading time, which causes them to lose interest in reading, and this would be devastating!
Inspiring our youth to read multiple books in a month can be challenging, but with these high-interest books, my students would be begging to read more!
