My Students

Kindergarten is full of learning, laughter, fun, and investigation! My kindergarten class consists of 20 energetic students. Some of my students are ESL (English as a Second Language) learners, and they come to me at the beginning of the year with little to no English. And for many of my students this is their very first school experience.

More than three-quarters of our students are from low-income households, making over 76% of our student population eligible for free or reduced lunch.

My Project

In kindergarten, most students enter as beginner readers. They are just learning about print and book awareness; recognizing that letters make sounds that form words; how reading is done left to right; which direction to hold and flip through a book. Having a listening center in the classroom will help model these skills for students as they follow along word for word, while hearing the story being read aloud.

Students will gain confidence and daily practice through the use of a listening center where they will follow along to stories being read to them.

This CD/cassette player and headphones will add listening center to the classroom. Which will help model beginner reading skills for students through following along word for word while hearing the story being read aloud.
