Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
For the 2021-2022 school year, I have the privilege of working in our school in N.B., Connecticut.
I have 21 students ranging from 4-6 years old.
Each child comes into Kindergarten with their own range of abilities and skills. Some children do not attend Pre-K whereas others go to a 3- and 4-year-old program.
In my classroom, I have students with Special Education services, Speech and Language services, and English language learners.
My Project
In my classroom we have a Kitchen Center. In this intentional play center, my students had a kitchen table to stand around. However, it broke. The play table was pasted down from the teacher before me when she retired. My students keep asking me for another table to place their food, plates, and coffee cups on.
Creating an environment that inspires my students to learn through play requires thought, attention, and encouragement.
It means that I have to carefully choose things that will awaken my students curiosity.
My hopes is to add a new kitchen table with chairs so my students can play together in harmony.
