My Project
My students, all 130, are bright, talented, and filled with potential. Many of them though lack the opportunities to read in their time or weren't taught the power books have.

My students come from the area of Kaneohe, Hawaii a small city located on the southeastern end of Oahu. Many of my students struggle with reading. Some of them have learning impediments while others don't have a passion for reading. Reading is an art that has been lost over the past few years. My students though, have yet to develop a passion for reading. I want to allow them to plant the seeds of reading in their lives so that they may grow to understand the power and comfort that comes from books.
My Project
I want to create a classroom where my students can learn to love books and feel safe. In my classroom, we lack books and other comforts that can help plant passion for reading. I want to set up a few reading spaces for them as well as for them. For this reason, I want to buy books. I also want to buy materials for a Safe Space for my students to go to when they feel stressed or anxious. This is why I want to buy a yoga mat as well as pillows to implement trauma-informed practices that focus on creating a safe school culture, building relationships, and supporting students’ self-efficacy.
