This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Many of my students recently completed the Choose to Code initiative that allowed them the opportunity to create their own websites via HTML coding. While we were completing this project, many of the girls had brought up Malala's story, which they had read in their English class.

After completing the coding project, many of the girls sought the opportunity to create more via coding.

These girls are very ambitious, and are often competing with the boys as to who can create the best projects, websites, presentations, and more. However, being an inner-city school, technology is not always readily available. We were able to complete the original coding project in the computer lab, but as state testing increases through the spring, these resources have begun to dwindle.

My Project

The Chromebooks will be used during Team Enrichment time, as well as lunch, and after school for coding purposes. The girls would like to explore different avenues of coding including java and C++. With the additional Chromebooks in the classroom, the students will now have permanent access in order to build their skill sets.

By providing girls with opportunities to code, they will be more likely to take computer classes in high school and college.

It is my hope that we can make a small difference in a few girls lives, that will eventually lead them to ideas and innovations that will make big changes in many more.
