This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I currently have 14 students out of 23 reading below grade level. Because reading and writing go hand in hand, many of them have difficulty writing basic sentences as well. It often becomes frustrating for them, but I want them to enjoy writing as much as I do.

The SRSD K-5 Online Educator Course, Writing to Learn™, provides a comprehensive, genre-based writing program designed to be easy to use and implement.

This self-paced online course equips educators with effective teaching strategies and offers tailored lesson plans, engaging video instructions, and detailed guidance for classroom integration. Grounded in research, SRSD (Self-Regulated Strategy Development) is proven to improve student writing outcomes by using structured, explicit teaching methods that prioritize mastery and build confidence.

What makes SRSD unique is its six-stage learning process, which allows students to revisit and reinforce their understanding while progressing at their own pace. The program focuses on modeling through the “I do, We do, You do” approach, ensuring students fully understand and apply each writing strategy before moving forward. This step-by-step method guarantees that students gain confidence, stay motivated, and experience success throughout the process.

SRSD also emphasizes self-regulation, teaching students to take ownership of their learning. By combining structure, modeling, and self-paced mastery, SRSD helps students achieve high levels of proficiency and fosters long-term academic growth in writing.

Effective writing instruction, like the SRSD program, offers numerous benefits for students by addressing both their academic and personal growth.

Writing is foundational to success in all subjects, as students use it to explain, analyze, and express understanding across the curriculum.

Programs like SRSD teach students to plan, monitor, and evaluate their own work, fostering independence and responsibility.

Writing is a critical skill in nearly all professions, and effective instruction prepares students for the demands of the workplace.
